Why we invest in our own ideas?
Investing in our own projects makes us a better design studio. We know what it’s like to invest in something that may or may not work. As a result, our methods are more commercially conscious, our processes leaner and our advice more grounded in reality.
We look for tiny opportunties to create something new and interesting. We only tackle things that can be launched within a month with the resources we have within the studio.
We design the bare minimum, prototype / launch, see if people like it and then decide if it’s worth persuing. We resist the urge to over engineer it and intentionally leave users asking for more.
We naturally gravitate towards ideas that support creative industries so it’s no suprise our first venture has been designed to promote local artists.
We created a place for medium-sized galleries to post their exhibitions and for users to find the best local artists. We want to see people return to galleries after COVID lockdowns. We want them to return so that they might buy art and support local artists. We live with art in our own homes and it’s a privilege. We hope more Australians get to live with art too.
Counterparts is an ongoing partnership we have with Karen Fermo and Kart Projects that explores parallel practices of designers/artists. The design language uses intersecting letters to create new letter forms and symmetrical layouts. The website plays with mirrored scrolling to further progress the conceptual intent.
