True innovation often comes from simplifying existing ideas. In an online space crowded with excess information, ArtCal stands out for its focus and simplicity. We created something fresh by maintaining straightforward functionality and honing in on a single goal: letting users easily pick a date and find out what’s showing.
The entire user interface is built around an interactive calendar, instantly recognisable but unique online. The calendar layout makes it easy to identify dates, and exhibition content is viewed without obscuring the calendar or losing context.
A simple but typographic design language makes the artwork the hero of the experience. The heptagon motif is a reference to the 'seven days of the week’, and to push this shape even further, we turned this mark into navigation and the navigation into our brand mark.
The outcome is a simple and easy-to-use interface. It’s a single-page application, dense with information but limited in scope, an experience that focuses on the things that matter.
As galleries started to reopen post-COVID lockdowns, we wanted to draw attention back to the art world. We’re still committed to seeing people visit and engage with cultural spaces, support local artists by purchasing their works, and create their own spaces filled with creativity and significance by bringing art into their homes.
