2019 marked the beginning of our partnership with Tennis Australia and our collaboration on a range of digital products, most notably the Australian Open (AO) mobile app, the AO website and Tennis Australia’s websites and players websites. A key focus was an ambitious refresh of the Australian Open app, where we reimagined its foundation and visual identity.
Our initial efforts prioritised an outstanding in-venue experience for users of the app, before shifting our focus to overall engagement, for both local and international fans, and boosting overall commercial potential. This series of strategic innovations, made possible through a collaborative and transparent partnership, has led to meaningful improvements year after year.
The app's evolution brought purposeful innovations. We introduced key features to enhance the experience: a smooth and intuitive onboarding sequence, a thoughtfully designed visit section, and ‘stories’ that surface naturally and easily.
Our vision for a unified scoring experience across multiple AO platforms emerged from a sophisticated system of reusable components, originally created for the app. This foundation has shaped some of the most visited pages on the website and influenced the player app, helping us create a cohesive digital ecosystem.
Collaboration with product owners, developers, and the content team at Tennis Australia has fostered a culture of user-centricity and excellence. Each release builds on this foundation, continuously elevating the experience for hundreds of thousands of fans. An by considering the complete user journey — whether court-side or streaming from home, or before, during and even after the event — we’ve created an experience that aligns with the overall vision and an app that works exactly as it should.
